Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off 2012 – And the winner is…
The weather was great on Saturday for the 16th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off.
Hungry chowder fans lined up early to get a sample of chowder from their favorite restaurants. Lines to get into the cook-off and at each of the stations were long but moved along quickly.
It was a day of fun for the whole family. In addition to the chowder competition there was live music and a Kidz Zone with face painting and an inflatable bouncing house.
Seven local chefs competed in the contest. The people’s choice winner this year was Havana’s while the judges chose O’Charley’s. With so much good chowder it was hard to select only one as a winner.
Did you make it to the cook-off and if so who was your favorite? If you didn’t make it this year, make sure to put the 17th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off on your calendar for next year.
Here is a short video of the fun at Carolina Beach Lake Park this past weekend.

They’re Back! Britt’s opens their doors for 2012.
The magic is back on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. On March 30th Britt’s reopened for the season.
People head to the boardwalk each year from all over just to eat one or maybe a dozen of these delicious confections. When you order yours don’t expect sprinkles or filings. They only make one type of donut, glazed, but they make it so well.
Established in 1939, Britt’s is a must stop for visitors to our area each year. . Be sure to add a visit to Britt’s to your itinerary this year or at the very least put it on your bucket list.
Britt’s is open from March 30th to October 1st. You can get your donut fix on a limited basis (Friday – Sunday) until Memorial Day Weekend when they resume a 7 day a week operation until Labor Day Weekend. After that it will go back to limited operations until it closes for the season on October 1st.
